*Latest - Added 16 more photos on 08/01/06. This are some photos of Sungei Road on a Sunday. Sungei Road was also known as a Thieves Market sometimes back. None of the photos really focus on what each seller is selling. You got to go down there and check this place out yourself. Handphones, cameras, clothes, home and kitchen utensils, hand tools, construction tools, electronic gadgets like cd players, watches, clocks, decorations, religious ornaments, toys - lot of toys from soft ones to plastic ones, books, magazines, bicycles and anything else. Prices can range from 50cents for books and toys, to hundred of dollars for the latest handphones and sometimes if you are lucky, laptops and video cameras.
Few things that I understand about this place. You dont have any hassle in clearing your handphones away. If you sell it away at handphone shops, they wants you to have a proof of identity, but here, its simple. Bargain anything until both parties agree on the price. Any Singaporean can set up stall here , but the strategic lots are taken up by the regulars. On weekends where its the most busiest, you can see groups of families or individuals setting up a small place for them to clear away their unused stuffs also. On Sunday, parts of the road beside this area is blocked for the foreign workers from India and Bangladesh to have more walking space and to view free movies at the open field nearby.
No vehicles actually enter the selling areas except for trishaws carrying tourists.
You can get really good condition handphones at attractive prices at this alley.
The field and trees are fenced up. No access to anyone.
On Sunday, this stretch of road is closed for the foreign workers to have more access area in Little India. Some stalls are set up for them, and free movies are played on the open field nearby.
Another alley of Sungei Road.
Stalls selling food and vegetables on Sunday only, background is people browsing thru things being sold.
The closed road every sunday.
I got these original Pucca dolls at only $1.
Aerial view of parts of Sungei Road.
Another view, you can see each alley streches for quite a distance.
