J-O-U-R-N-E-Y. Who have listened to Journey and doesn’t like them?
They have songs for everyone. Heavy , faster ones, and also beautiful slow ballads, I think they are one of my top 10 favourite bands of all time.
The band is still around now, but minus Steve Perry. I have listened to some of their newer songs and live versions of old songs, they sound great, the new singer Steve Augerli ( don’t know the spelling ) sounds like a Steve Perry clone, but the old Journey during their pop-rock era of the 80s are still the best.

This is a dvd taken from some long lost footage in the early days of MTV.
Seems this is one of the first live concerts recorded for MTV broadcast back in early 1982. Some portions of this concert were available in some Journey cd and dvd best of compilation, but this is the first time the whole complete broadcast is available.
The former singer Steve Perry produced this dvd but seems the official Journey website did not mention this dvd production at all.

Highlights –
For the price, this special collectors edition is really worth the money.
Its sort of like a history lesson, nostalgic even. 1981- the dressing, the coolness of wearing jeans high up LOL!!. Wearing white Nike shoes with that red color swoosh. The colourful colours. When the camera pans to the audience, they look so happiy without any worries.
The cameras time are fairly divided for each band member. The most important thing is that unlike present video concerts where it gets all artistic with fast cuts, on this dvd, the camera remains on each member of the band for some time. So you can enjoy them better. I really like in when it focus on the drummer.
Hightlights
- One of my favourite back to back songs of all time. LIGHTS and STAY AWHILE back to back, merging into one five fantastic minutes. There is another version available on Journey’s Live Greatest Hits, and to finally see how this two songs is sort of merged is really something.
- Open Arms – This song is so slow and a bit gay, but I still like it. Only Steve Perry can sing this song. Mariah Carey sucks on this song, she isn’t good enough to cover this song.
- Mother Father – Very dramatic song
- Steve Smith Solo – I really like this guy’s drumming. His drumming on the song Open Arms is very catchy.
- Don’t Stop Believing – Absolutely a super song. Its perfect.
- The crowd is so loud. Seems they have microphones on the crowd.
- Everything else on this dvd.

I cant find any cons for this edition. If you expect a super high crystal clear dvd footage, you wont find it here, but if you are looking for a fantastic live performance from one of the best pop-rock bands of all time, recorded back in 1981 where I guess the world was a much happier and trouble-free period, you will get it here.
If you can find this collector’s edition at the price I quote. Just buy it.

Now I am hoping for more old footages of Journey digged out from some mines, cleaned and released on dvds. I have seen a bootleg footage of the 1984 Live in Budokan Japan footage. Now that is a proper dvd concert I hope to see. That includes songs from Frontiers - a really good Journey album.
